Waipo'o Falls
Of all the hikes, this is one of the most satisfying with incredible views along the way of the polychromatic Waimea Canyon, fondly called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. At the end of this hike there is the added attraction of a fragrant gingered covered waterfall and pool perched at the edge of the canyon. By this pool is where we end the hike with a lunch and pause to enjoy the great quiet. On the way and upon the return be on the lookout for the beautiful flights of the "white tail tropic bird" over the Waimea Canyon and in the forest look for the fragrant "maile" vine and our native "koa". Along the way to the trail head we can stop at several of the lookouts and enjoy the many angles and perspectives of the geological wonder that is the Waimea Canyon and Koke'e highlands. Nu'alolo/Awa'awapuhi
A Very Long Day Hiking Extravaganza! This loop trail, in visual impact, rivals the more famous Na Pali Coast Trail . We rate the Nu'alolo/Awa'awapuhi trail # 2 on Kaua'i. The Nu'alolo portion of the trail is in walking distance of the Koke'e lodge and Museum. If we have enough time we encourage trekkers to pass by this museum to enjoy its natural history exhibits, so they can put the Koke'e natural history and topography in perspective. It is around an 11-mile loop that slopes gradually down through a "dry land" forest with many examples of native and exotic plants and trees. Some native birds, like the precocious "elepaio" can be seen. Once out of the forest we come to the first of many view of the Na Pali Coast below. From the end of Nu'alolo you can see the distant lagoon of Ke'e, where the Na Pali Coast trail begins. Taking the Nu'alolo/Awa'awapuhi loop, this will ultimately take us to the narrow, knife edged ridge of Awa'awaphuhi. Along the way we can take advantage of the rustic picnic shelter midway on the loop. Once at the end of the Awa'awapuhi Trail, you will have to agree that the views from this fluted ridge has to be one of the more impressive in all Hawaii. Returning we will gradually gain elevation and end the journey at the Koke'e Road. * Special rates arranged for larger groups For more information or reservations contact us at: To place a reservation :
